Amaravati - name of new capital? Hyderabad: Amaravathi is apt name for new capital city of Andhra Pradesh as the name of NTR is not suitable, according to senior TDP leader Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdhary.
Interacting with media persons at Assembly lobbies here, Butchaiah said Amaravati in Guntur district was popular across the world and would be apt for the new capital. The idea was already informed to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, he said.
His remarks came at a time when NTR's name was doing rounds for the new capital and publicity was on to name the new capital as NTR Nagar. There seems to be a conflict of idea regarding naming of the new capital as TD leaders are reportedly divided on the issue.
Chowdhary further said, 'Though NTR is my God, there is no second opinion, the new capital has to be named after Amaravathi as it is 2,500 year old and will easily spread across nations.'
He said the land price in Guntur and Vijayawada areas rose to Rs 2 crore per acre from Rs 10 lakh as the new capital was to be formed there. The AP government would adopt land pooling policy and do justice to those, who gave lands for the capital city, he added.
