Not easy to lay alternate roads in Army area: GHMC Chief Hyderabad, Dec 20 (INN): GHMC Special Officer Somesh Kumar and senior officials of other departments on Saturday inspected the areas that are going to close for the use of public from January 1st onwards and searched for the alternative routes.
Secunderabad Cantonment Board CEO Sujatha, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Jithender and Incharge Collector Sanjeevaiah also participated in the inspection.
Speaking during the inspection, Somesh Kumar said that the purpose of visit was to settle the problems likely to be faced by the people after the closure of roads.
However, he said that the alternative available routes were not sufficient to take the load of traffic density and they would escalate the traffic chaos. Those areas are so congested with the houses that it is not possible to widen the roads from 30ft. to 100ft. as acquiring of land is very limited, he said.
For providing alternative roads, the Special Officer sought about 60ft. to 100ft. area from the compound wall of Cantonment area depending upon the density of the traffic.
Further, he said it would take at least 18 months for laying roads from the date of handing over the place by the Army. The suggested alternative routes are 100ft. road, AOC to Seethaphal mandi Railway gate stretch of 5 ' kilometers and 60ft. road from Willington to Tirumelghery Hanuman temple and 100 ft. road AOC, EMC to R.K. Puram ROB stretch of 2 kilometers.
The Cantonment CEO said that practical approach should be adopted as nearly two lakh people are living in the Cantonment area.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said that the alternative roads are not sufficient and severe problems would arise as lakhs of people are passing through the present roads for almost 100 years. Those people would be put to irreparable loss if present roads are closed.
GHMC Engineer-in-Chief R. Dhan Singh and other senior officials of GHMC, Traffic Police and Cantonment Board have participated in the visit.
