CPM seeks govt's clarity on river bank structures VIJAYAWADA: After taking a closer look at several swank guest houses, resorts and fitness centres on the Krishna river bank upstream of Prakasam barrage, CPM politburo member BV Raghavulu demanded that the state government clarify whether the constructions were legal or not.
The CPM leader set out in the morning from Lotus Food City at Sitanagaram and took a close look at a nature cure hospital set up by Manthena Satyanarayana Raju at Venkatapalem, buildings raised by Chandana Brothers, MP Gokaraju Ranga Raju and so on and noticed that they were not only on the bank but were projecting right into the river.
Later speaking to mediapersons, the CPM leader wondered why the government was not taking any action even though the constructions were a clear violation of the provisions of the River Conservation Act.
'Are they legal or illegal? Let the government clarify first,' he said and wanted to know if they were illegal why action was not taken against them and if they were legal let the government say how they were legal.
He demanded an explanation why the government had not taken action even though BJP leadership had laid foundation stone for construction of a building on the river bank even after CRDA special commissioner N Srikanth had said that there was no question of allowing illegal structures.
He said it was reprehensible that the government which was looking the other when when it came to illegal buildings that have been raised by politically influential affluent sections, was showing an unwarranted haste in acquiring fertile lands of farmers for constructing a capital.
