AP gets ready to conduct separate Eamcet HYDERABAD: It is now final. As the Telangana government is not ready to budge on the issue of holding a common Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) for the students of both states, Andhra Pradesh government seems to have firmed up its decision to hold a separate Eamcet for its students.
According to sources, the government has decided to assign the responsibility of holding the exam to the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Kakinada. This is likely to be finalised by the AP Cabinet during its next meeting, slated for Monday.
Interestingly, the AP government's decision comes four days after governor ESL Narasimhan had tried to persuade the Chief Ministers of both AP and Telangana, N Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrasekhar Rao respectively, to amicably resolve the issue.
Sources said when Naidu called on the governor two days ago, he had informed him about the AP government's decision of going ahead with its earlier move of holding a separate EAMCET for the students of AP as Telangana was opposing the idea of a common exam.
In fact, as the TS government had already announced the dates of EAMCET and other entrance exams for its students a few days ago and is about to release the relevant notifications, the AP government has been left with no option but to have a separate EAMCET for its students.
Moreover, with intermediate exams just a month away (from March 11), the AP government is not in a position to delay the matter further which would only lead to further confusion among the students and parents. The AP government, in fact, had already announced the schedule for the conduct of EAMCET.
According to the schedule released by the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) chairman L Venugopal Reddy a few days ago, the EAMCET would be held on May 10.
Asked about the AP government's decision to stick to its earlier decision of holding EAMCET, Prof T Papi Reddy, chairman of the Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE), recalled that they had already announced the schedule to conduct separate EAMCET for the students of Telangana.
