Vizag: Runaway groom surrenders before police VISAKHAPATNAM: The III Town cops arrested a person who had gone absconding a few days before his marriage in December after the bride's parents refused to give him the demanded dowry.
Parvesh, an MBA graduate from GITAM, who fell in love with a dental student, also from GITAM, had gone absconding for over a month and a half. He surrendered before the police.
According to police, Parvesh, a resident of Visakhapatnam city, is the son of a noted businessmen. During his MBA, he fell in love with the daughter of an APSP officer, who was studying at GITAM Dental College.
The family members of the youngsters agreed to the alliance. The duo got engaged in November, 2014, and were to marry on December 12.
But actual problem started when Parvesh demanded an additional dowry of `2 crore for setting up an ice plant near Pendurthi, where he works at a shrimp factory. Despite the bride's parents expressing their inability to give such a huge amount, Parvesh stayed on his demand and fled his house two days before the marriage.
Shocked at the sudden turn of events, the girl and her family members lodged a complaint with the cops. The police registered a case and launched a manhunt for the accused. However, Parvesh surrendered before police Tuesday midnight.
