SCR collects 8.11 Cr from ticketless travelers Hyderabad, March 6 (INN): The South Central Railway has realized an amount of Rs 8.11 crore from the ticketless travels, irregular travel and un-booked luggage cases towards penalty.
The SCR continuously carries out drives against ticketless travel, irregular travel and un-booked luggage with a view to eradicate the menace of ticketless travel and to ensure comfortable/safe travel for the bona-fide passengers. The ticket checking staff and Railway Protection Force personnel undertake several kinds of checks such as regular checks, surprise checks, fortress checks, road checks etc. over all the six Divisions of the zone.
During the month of February, 2015, 2.55 lakh cases were detected which is 17.4 % higher when compared to the cases detected in the corresponding period of last year. These include 80117 cases of travel without ticket; 89360 cases of irregular travel and 85748 cases of un-booked luggage. Irregular travel includes traveling on transferred ticket, adults traveling on child ticket, non senior citizen travelling on senior citizen tickets, general/season ticket holder traveling in reserved coaches etc. An amount of Rs. 8.11 Cr. was realized from these ticketless travels, irregular travel and un-booked luggage cases towards penalty registering an increase of 21.36 % over the same month of last year.
Cumulatively, during the period from April, 2014 to February, 2015, 27.72 lakh cases were apprehended. These include 8.69 lakh cases of travel without tickets; 9.65 lakh cases of irregular travel and 9.37 lakh cases of un-booked luggage. An amount of Rs. 90.4 Cr. was realized from these offenders towards penalty which is 18.46% more than the penalty realized during same period of the last financial year.
The surprise checks carried out by the flying squads of the Divisions and head quarters and fortress checks conducted under direct supervision senior officials at major stations helped reduce ticketless travel.
