Five point strategy to realise energy savings Hyderabad, March 22 (INN): In tune with the objective of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to implement 24 X 7 power supply on sustainable basis for consumers of domestic, Commercial and Industrial sectors, who constitute more than 90% of total consumers, the Andhra Pradesh Government has contemplated to adopt five point strategy for implementation of Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation programmes and realising expected energy savings of around 24 per cent.
To achieve this gigantic task, the Chief Minister has recently emphasised the Five Point Strategy which will benefit the state and stake holders in a big way, said Chief Secretary and Chairman/ APSECM Dr.IYR Krishna Rao.
The points in strategy includes involving the entire govt machinery of AP Govt and also Agencies of Govt of India such as Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Energy Efficiency Services Limited,(EESL), Rural Electrification Corporation of India (REC), etc.; Motivating the power utilities/ DISCOMS for implementing DSM based activities duly utilising the energy efficient power equipment/ Machinery; Inculcating the habit of Energy Conservation among all school going children by creating the wings of Energy Conservation Corps and to continue the wide spread campaigning for creating much more awareness among general public; Encouraging all categories of consumers to adopt energy efficient equipment/ Star rated Appliances duly explaining the advantages & benefits in the form of reduced electricity bills and Facilitating the energy efficient equipment manufacturers like LED bulbs, star rated appliances, Air conditioners, Refrigerators and Fans etc., in imparting the latest technologies available across the globe for enhancing the productivity which in turn paves way for the reducing the rates of the appliances for the benefit of consumers.
In view of its increasing significance, for the first time the govt. has decided to include the Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency on top priority in the Agenda of Secretaries Conference on March 23 and Collectors Video Conference on March 24. On this occasion, the CS, who had a brief interaction with some of the senior officers on the proposed agenda of the above meetings, requested all the Secretaries and Collectors to come up with much more innovative and creative techniques/ ideas on energy efficiency, since AP has already taken a Big lead and got due recognition even at National Level. CS has thanked the Central agencies BEE, EESL, Ministry of Power, GOI for their unstinted support to AP, which has completed the distribution of around 40lakhs LED bulbs within a short period of four months in domestic Sector and replacement of 91,775 inefficient street lights with Energy Efficient LED based street lighting. CS further opined that Energy Conservation and Efficiency is one of the key factors for prestigious POWER FOR ALL (24 X 7) scheme being implemented in AP. That's why the Govt has adopted integrated approach on Energy Conservation/ Efficiency involving all Key Departments as desired by CM.
Ajay Jain, Secretary, Energy & I &I, informed that the Energy Efficiency activities are in full swing and the Govt is expecting 638 Million Units (63.8 Crores units) of energy savings per annum through the pilot projects of DELP and street lighting.
