What's more special is the lady is a Telugu woman and she hailed from Telangana. Saritha, from Nalgonda in Telangana, was appointed as bus driver last week. She was working as a private chauffeur in south Delhi when she was hired by DTC. Saritha wants to send a message that a woman can do any job that a man can. Saritha says she wanted to drive bus to upend gender roles.
"We were five sisters, four of them got married. I was the youngest one. My father's health was not good and we were having financial problems. My father raised me like a son and encouraged me to keep my hairs shorts and wear shirts and trousers . I learned driving while driving tractor in our farm. This is how I got license for driving heavy vehicles," said Saritha.
Transport minister of Delhi Gopal Rai lauded Saritha for accepting the challenge of driving a bus on the roads of Delhi and complimented DTC officials for their decision.
