Criminal cases on encroachers of lakes: Harish Rao Hyderabad, April 25 (INN): Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has stated that the Telangana Government would not spare the people who are encroaching lakes and criminal cases would be booked against them.
He was speaking to media persons after inspecting the Chinarayuni Cheruvu, along with Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, GHMC Commissioner & Special Officer Somesh Kumar and other senior officials here on Saturday. The GHMC is removing hyacinth in Chinarayuni Cheruvu using a modern technology called weed harvester, a first of its kind in India.
The Minister also said that the Mission Kakatiya has been taken as per the directions and vision of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and the works are being taken up in a speedy manner. He said that it was the moral responsibility of every citizen to protect the lakes and curb encroachments in and around the lakes. As many 169 lakes, which are existing in the GHMC limits, would be taken up for removing hyacinth as being done at Chinarayuni Cheruvu. Of them, 30 lakes would also be taken up for the development and beautification.
Harish Rao further stated that Rs 1.5 crore has been sanctioned by the State Government for the beautification of Chinarayuni Cheruvu.
The Home Minister too expressed concern over encroachments on lakes. He appealed to all citizens to participate in the Mission Kakatiya and make it a grand success.
Meanwhile, Somesh Kumar informed that two lakes and two graveyards would be taken up in each circle for which the budget has also been allocated in the 2015-16 financial year. The GHMC is also planning to plant 50 lakh samplings as a part of Haritha Haram scheme, he said.
Malkajgiri MLA Chintala Kanaka Reddy requested the Ministers to develop three lakes in his constituency.
GHMC Zonal Commissioner (North) Harichandana, Engineer-in-Chief R Dhan Singh, Chief Engineer K Suresh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner (Alwal) P Saroja and other senior officials have participated in the visit.
