RTC fares may go up by 15% Hyderabad, May 5 (INN): RTC Managing Director Sambasiva Rao has stated that it was it inevitable to hike the bus fares in order to increase the salaries of RTC employees in the State.
Sambasiva Rao indicated a hike of nearly 15 per cent in RTC fares. He said there has been no increase in the tariff of RTC buses. He said the fares would be increased only after getting approval from both, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State Governments. He said that payment of 27% fitment allowance to RTC employees would put an additional burden of nearly Rs 800 crore on the corporation. However, he said that the management was unable to increase the staff salaries due to the weak financial position. He also ruled out payment of 43% fitment allowance to RTC employees on par with other employees of State Government.
The RTC MD informed that a Cabinet Sub-Committee has been formed by the State Government to look into the demands of employees associations. Therefore, he said decision on fulfillment of employees' demands would be taken only after the receipt of Cabinet Sub-Committee's report. He said it was unfair on the part of unions to go on strike while keeping the talks with management inconclusive.
Sambasiva Rao urged the employees to review their decision to go on strike by keeping in view the weak financial position of Road Transport Corporation. He said the strike would deteriorate the conditions further. He said efforts were being made to put off or at least delay the strike.
