TSCBOA to undertake socio-economic survey Hyderabad, May 23 (INN): The Telangana State Cabs and Bus Operators Association (TSCBOA) has decided to undertake a massive socio-economic survey of cab drivers across the Telangana State.
This was disclosed by TSCBOA President Syed Nizamuddin while addressing the Drivers' Sensitisation programme, fourth in the series, organised by the Association in colloboration with the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) and Cyberabad Police, at Capital IQ in Hitech City, Madhapur, here on Saturday. He said that a sample socio-economic survey covering 2,000 cab drivers has already been launched. He said that over 50,000 cab drivers, including 40,000 drivers operating in the Greater Hyderabad limits, would be covered in the three-four months.
"The survey would identify the socio-economic conditions of cab drivers and based on its finding, they would be given proper guidance on how to benefit from various welfare schemes being implemented by the State and Central Governments. Further, there is a proposal to provide them life and health insurance covers. Representations would be made to the concerned departments on providing housing, scholarships to drivers' children and pension benefits to their parents," Syed Nizamuddin said. He also announced that the Healthier Hearts Foundation has agreed to conduct free health check-up for all the drivers in Telangana State.
Addresing the programme, SCSC Director Major (Retd) Bharat Reddy said that the training programme for cab drivers would be taken to the next level and all cab drivers in the State should be sensitised on issues concerned security, especially women's safety. He stressed on the importance of involving drivers into the security initiatives.
ACP Kukatpally Ashok, Cyberabad Traffic Forum head Y Krishna, Traffic Training Institute inspector Shankar and Madhapur Traffic Inspector Narsing Rao also addressed the programme.
It has also been decided to conduct sports activities for the cab drivers. To begin with, a cricket tournament will be organised from May 31 wherein 100 teams will participate. There will be cash awards and other consolation prizes for the participating drivers.
