World Bank Coordinator visited AP Nodal Agency Hyderabad, May 28: Ms. Kasturi Basu, Coordinator, Neeranchal Watershed Management Project, World Bank visited State Level Nodal Agency, Commisionerate of Rural Development, GOAP and held discussions with Sri.B.Ramanjaneyulu, Commissioner, PR & RD on convergences processes taken up under Integrated Watershed Management Programme and MGNREGS.
While explaining the purpose of visit, Ms. Kasturi explained the reasons of her visit remarked that 'AP has demonstrated best convergence practices under IWMP in the country' and hence visited to have in depth understanding on the policies, strategies and initiatives taken up by the state.
The Commissioner, PR & RD informed the recent decisions on convergence arrangement made between IWMP and MGNREGS to take up Natural Resource Management works in IWMP villages with EGS funds. As part of IWMP & MGNREGS Convergence, Rs.1379.51 cores has been spent in watershed villages with MGNREGS funds towards Dry land horticulture works and repairs & restoration of existing water harvesting structures thus ensuring treatment of watershed areas in saturation mode. He also stated that from now onwards we are entering more convergence between IWMP and MGNREGS duly taking up all the wage extensive works through EGS funds.
This helps in creating wage employment for EGS wage seekers Further, explained Mission based approach of State Government emphasising on Neeru-Chettu Programme under which both IWMP and MGNREGS has vital role to play in water conservation and improving green cover.
The Commissioner, PR & RD requested the Coordinator, Neeranchal to appraise WORLD BANK as well as Central Government on the AP state convergence initiatives and mobilize for financial assistance and special projects to AP. Responding to the same, Ms. Kasturi Basu requested the Commissioner, PR & RD to send a formal project proposal to the Bank and GoI. Later, she interacted with the Officers and Experts in SLNA and learnt the convergence processes in detail.
