NHRC recommends CBI probe into encounter Hyderabad, May 29 (INN): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Friday recommended CBI probe into killing of 20 alleged red-sandalwood smugglers in an encounter with the police.
The alleged red-sandalwood smugglers were killed on April 7 in Seshachalam forest near Tirupati in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. Besides recommending CBI probe, the NHRC also ordered Andhra Pradesh Government to pay Rs 8 lakh interim compensation to the family of deceased. According to Justice D Murugesan of NHRC, the AP Government was ye to sent its reports to the Commission on the encounter.
