Congress urge for open ballot election Hyderabad, May 29 (INN): Congress senior leader and Rajya Sabha member R Anand Bhaskar demanded that the polling for MLC elections, to be held on June 1 to fill six seats, should be done through open ballot.
Bhaskar, along with another MP MA Khan, made a representation to the Election Commission of India at New Delhi on Friday. Bhaskar alleged that the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi was trying to win the elections through undemocratic means by luring the MLAs of opposition parties. He said that the Congress and TDP MLAs, who defected to TRS, were not disqualified despite several representations. He said that the TRS was trying to get its five candidates elected using the votes of rebel MLAs. To prevent cross-voting, he urged the Election Commission to conduct the MLC polls through open ballot, instead of secret ballot.
The Congress MPs also objected to the voting rights to nominated Anglo-Indian MLA in the MLC elections.
