First Phase of DELP completed in AP Hyderabad, July 5 (INN): Keeping in view of the huge potentiality in the state and proactive approach of the Andhra Pradesh Government, which is pioneer in implementation of Energy Conservation and efficiency activities in the country, the Government of India is contemplating to make more investments in Energy Efficiency activities in the state.
Centre is determined to make AP the most energy efficient state in the country. Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal prefers to discuss the success story of AP in energy efficiency front in the Central Cabinet. Secretary power P.K. Pujari has directed the Director General of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) Dr. Ajay Mathur and & EESL to submit a detailed report on the major developments of AP wherein distribution of 56.5 Lakhs LED bulbs in domestic sector and one lakh LED Street Lights in Municipal sector with an expected considerable energy savings in the first phase itself, said Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Joint venture company under Ministry of Power, Govt. of India.
Speaking after holding discussions and apprising with Municipal Administer P Narayana and Secretary, Energy Ajay Jain on Saturday evening, Saurabh has told that in line with the plans of GOI & State Govt., M/s. EESL is planning to invest around Rs.5,000 Crores in coming five years in Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency activities in coordination with APSECM, MA&UD & AP DISCOMS etc . For the second Phase of DELP scheme in AP, bidding process has been initiated and the bids are likely to be opened before 15th July 2015. Due to LED revolution of AP and successful implementation of DELP Scheme, the rates of the 7 Watt LED bulbs have fallen down drastically from around Rs.320 per bulb in Puducherry scheme to a level of around Rs. 80/- which would boost the energy efficiency objectives. Perhaps, no other state in the country is focusing this much on Energy Efficiency activities, thanks to the proactive role of the Chief Minister and Administrative machinery of AP, said Saurabh.
The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission has given consent to the DELP scheme in a short period there by extended their helping hand to the noble cause of energy efficiency activities and as such we are thankful to the Regulatory Commission. Amongst all the states EESL is involved AP regulator is most concerned about the interest of the public/consumers, said Saurabh.
Minister Narayana, has reviewed the progress of implementation of LED street light programme and insisted with the MD/ EESL to expedite the process and complete the scheme by March 2016 as per the schedule. Special efforts are being made to complete the programme of installation of LED street lights in the Municipalities covered in Godavari Pushkarams.
Ajay Jain informed that the recent compliments of the Hon'ble Prime Minister during video conferencing on PRAGATI programme with the Chief Secretary of AP, have enthused the officials for taking up the energy conservation momentum to further new heights. Saurabh informed Ajay Jain that, several global financial institutions like KFW have agreed in principle to provide a loan of around Rs 1500 Crores to EESL for taking up Energy efficiency activities in the country, wherein major portion will be invested in AP for expediting the DELP & Street lighting programme. The Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) in four pilot districts is complete, and about 56.5 Lakhs LED bulbs have been distributed in the state.
