Rowdy sheeters help cops in planting trees Hyderabad, July 5 (INN): As part of the ongoing Haritha haram programme, Malkajgiri police team has roped in people from all walks of life. The campaign saw large scale participation from general public, school and college students, industries, senior citizens, etc.,
In an endeavour to implement a comprehensive crime prevention strategy, the police team in collaboration with community agencies has decided to involve the so called unsocial elements in the Green Campaign. With an aim that any comprehensive crime prevention programme must include effective measures to prevent recidivism and to stop the cycle of failed adaptation by repeat offenders, as pointed out by eminent criminologists. The programme is aimed at social re-integration of these people with criminal history. As the family is also involved, a kind of social responsibility is also instilled.
Today in JNTU Polytechnic College, Ramanthapur, 1000 saplings were planted by them in the presence of Uppal MLA N.V.S.Prabhakar, and DCP Malkajgiri Rama Rajeshwari. The programme saw participation of school children in good numbers. Local peace committee members have helped in preparing the pits.
A total of 68 rowdy sheeters from all the 10 police station limits have actively participated and resolved to help the locals in protecting these saplings. Police teams hope that such positive re-integration programmes help these offenders in attaining positive outcomes in terms of joining mainstream when factors predisposing a person to criminal behaviour are addressed in a holistic fashion and the social acceptance needs of these offenders are met.
