Municipal employees to go on strike Nearly 69,000 contract municipal employees, including 24,000 employees of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, will go on strike from Monday.
The contract municipal employees, under the banner of Telangana State Municipal Employees Labour United Association, took out a rally from Sundaraiyya Vignanan Kendram to Indira Park on Sunday. Addressing the rally at Indira Park, CITU President T Venkateshan, AITUC President A Asuratnam, G Shankar of BMS, R Rama Rao of HMS and other leaders warned that the contract employees would go on strike if their demands were not met by Monday morning. They said that the Association has made representation on 16 major demands which include minimum salary of Rs. 14,170 for contract employees, Rs. 17,380 for skilled employees and PF and Health Cards for the permanent employees.
The union leaders said that they had served the strike notice to the State Government on June 8 and Labour Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy held discussion with them on June 20. The Municipal Administration Department officials also held talks on 22nd and 23rd June and sought 10 days time to resolve the demands. However, so far they did not react to the demands.
