KCR holds review meeting on minorities welfare Inquiry, which was appointed earlier to study the socio-economic and educational conditions of Muslims in the State.
The decision was taken during the review meeting on Minorities Welfare held by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao at his camp office on Monday. Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, MIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Minorities Welfare Department Special Secretary Syed Omer Jaleel, Inquiry Commission chairman G Sudhir and member Prof. MA Bari also attended the meeting. The Chief Minister said that the Commission's report would pave the way for providing 12% reservation to Muslims in the State.
Owaisi introduced Amerullah Khan to the Chief Minister and said that was a renowned economist and had also served as an IAS officer. The Chief Minister directed the Inquiry Commission to follow the procedures adopted by Sachar Committee to gather information about the backwardness of Muslims in the State.
Stating that Muslims constitute about 12% of the total population in Telangana, the Chief Minister asked Inquiry Commission to conduct sittings in three to four Assembly segments to gather information. He also asked it to collect pictures and videos related to living standards of Muslim community. The services of three-four agencies would be also taken for the survey.
Based on the survey findings, the State Government will design short-term and long-term schemes for the welfare of minorities. He said the majority of Muslims in Telangana were living below poverty line. Many of them have monthly income of below Rs. 1,000.
KCR assured that the State Government would implement all the recommendations of the Inquiry Commission.
