Panel submits preliminary report in Rishiteswari case Hyderabad, Aug 2 (INN): The four-member panel, headed by retired IAS officer Balasubrahmanyam, on Sunday submitted the preliminary report in the death of Rishiteswari, a first year B.Arch student who committed suicide in her hostel room at the Architecture College on the Acharya Nagarjuna University premises in Guntur district on July 14.
Speaking to media persons after receiving the preliminary report, Andhra Pradesh HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao said that the tenure of inquiry committee is being extended for another week so as to enable it to complete the report. Besides Balasubrahmanyam, Prof Veeraiah, Vice-Chancellor of the Vikram Simhapuri University, Nellore, Prof Balakrishnam Naidu from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati and Prof P Vijaya Lakshmi, Registrar, Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswavidyalayam, Tirupati are the other members of the panel.
The minister said that a retired IAS officer was asked to conduct the probe in view of shortage of sitting judges of High Court. However, he assured stern action against those responsible for the death of Rishiteswari after the receipt of final report.
