Jeevan Reddy demands compensation for farmers Hyderabad, Sept 5 (INN): Deputy CLP leader T. Jeevan Reddy on Saturday demanded that the Telangana Government waive off the interest on loans taken by farmers to minimise the burden of losses which they suffered due to drought conditions.
Speaking to media persons in Assembly premises, Jeevan Reddy said that Finance Minister Eatala Rajender and Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy held a meeting with State-Level Bankers' Committee on Friday to discuss waiver of crop loans. However, he said that the State Government did not pressurised the banks to waive off the interest to the tune of Rs. 720 crore. He said that the interest should also be waived along with the crop loans to help the farmers.
Jeevan Reddy also demanded increase in compensation for the families of those farmers who committed suicide. He said as against nearly 1500 suicide, the Agriculture Minister admitted of only 409 suicides. Of them, compensation of Rs. 1.5 lakh as per GO 421 has been paid to only 144 farmers. He said compensation amount should be increased to Rs. 5 lakh per family. He also demanded input subsidy of Rs. 10,000 per acre for the drought hit farmers.
