Telangana universities set for massive revamp
Hyderabad, Sept 26 (INN): State universities are set to see a massive revamp in terms of academics, finances, infrastructure, research and other aspects if State Government has its way.
The Telangana Government has decided to assist the state universities in all possible ways, said Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari on Saturday after holding a review meeting with university vice-chancellors. In order to extend support from the state government he instructed the university authorities to furnish the details of infrastructure, facilities, faculty, equipment and others to the government. He said that state government has instructed the universities to install biometric system and CCTVs across constituent colleges, affiliated colleges and university campuses by December 31.
'The academic and financial conditions of state universities is in very promising conditions and need an immediate revamp and support by the government', he lamented. Speaking about the decisions taken during the review meeting he said that universities were asked to furnish the details of land, assets, equipment and furniture to the government.
It was asked that all universities must make their services online including issuance of certificates, dispensing scholarships and others in a phased manner. The minister has asked the varsities to introduce e-libraries with internet and Wi-Fi facilities.
Stressing upon for the new recruitment in universities it was instructed to the universities to submit the details of sanctioned posts and vacancy position as soon as possible. Proposals were sought from the universities for construction of new buildings in all university campuses as per the requirement. He said that the state government has asked the universities to implement the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for post graduate courses from next academic year.
'Review meetings of these sorts would be held every three months from now to see the implementation of decisions taken' he added. He alleged the previous governments for the dire conditions of universities in the state.
