TRS, Opposition gears up for Telangana Bandh Hyderabad, Oct 9 (INN): The TRS Government is gearing up to face the first major protest by all the opposition parties in the form of Telangana Bandh on Saturday demanding payment of farm loan waiver dues at one go.
Although the State Government has put the entire administration on alert, it is feared that the Telangana Bandh might badly affect the branding of TRS Government which is now being portrayed as anti-farmer. Police have deployed additional forces at all district headquarters and pickets have been posted at major bus depots where opposition parties have planned to hold protest to prevent plying of RTC buses. The bandh is not likely to have a major impact on education sector as most of the schools have declared 15-day holidays on completion of quarterly exams on Friday. Being a second Saturday, many office-goers too might not feel the impact of bandh. However, the impact, even if symbolic in nature, is expected to boost the morale the opposition parties in the State.
Strangely, the main opposition party Congress has aligned with its arch rivals TDP and BJP, to ensure success of Telangana Bandh. TPCC Chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy held joint meetings with TDP and BJP leaders for the joint protest. However, this strategy might go against the Congress and TDP-BJP combine in future as they share different ideologies and policies. The unity among opposition parties might also provide enough substance to the ruling TRS party to counter their criticism. The TRS might question Congress party's friendship with the TDP-BJP combine, as AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi has been targeting BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre over the farmers' issues.
Whatever may be the impact of Saturday's bandh, this joint protest is all set to change the tone of politics in Telangana State.
