Harish turns tables on Opposition Hyderabad, June 26 (INN): Trying to turn the tables on the Opposition on the Mallannasagar project oustees compensation, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said that the opposition would be held responsible for any loss the farmers would face due to compensation handed out on the basis of Land Acquisition Act.
Addressing the reporters here on Sunday, Harish Rao said that the opposition spearheaded false campaign against the government on the compensation issue to the project oustees. "The Opposition parties want the compensation to farmers according to Land Acquisition Act 2013, which the government wants the compensation to farmers to be more and hence brought out the GO 123. According to the GO, farmers stand a fair chance of getting a higher compensation. If a farmer gets Rs 1.8 lakh compensation according to the Land Acquisition Act, the compensation for the same tract of land would be as high as Rs 4.8 lakh. Hence the Opposition parties would be responsible for the any loss to the farmers,' the Irrigation minister.
He accused the Opposition parties of obstructing the development projects to gain political mileage. He questioned the motive of Opposition parties as to why they did not oppose Ellampally project which posed threat to 11 villages while Mallannasagar project would affect only 7 villages. The state government is committed for the welfare of the farmers, the minister reiterated.
Harish Rao demanded that Congress leaders Uttam Kumar Reddy and Jana Reddy apologize the farmers as they failed to pay the Pulichintala project oustees their compensation.
Meanwhile, Minister Jupally Krishna Rao lambasted BJP leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy and TD leader Revanth Reddy saying that the duo were trying to gain supremacy in Mahabubnagar district by opposing the irrigation projects. Speaking to reporters, the minister said that had the two leaders pressurized their governments in the past to construct irrigation project in Telangana, this situation would not have arose now.
