Heavy rains disrupt normal life in Hyderabad Hyderabad, Aug 31 (INN): Heavy rains disrupted the normal life in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad on Wednesday. At least eight persons were killed in separate rain-related incidents.
While several low-lying areas got submerged in the rains that lashed the twin cities in the early hours, the movement of vehicular traffic was badly on almost all main roads due to water logging. Several streets were literally turned into pools. The office-goers and school students had a tough time reaching their destinations.
While many areas of Old City were badly affected with rains and water logging, normal life was thrown out of gear in Secunderabad, Begumpet, Tirumulgherry, Alwal, Kushaiguda, Malkajgiri, Keesra, ECIL, Panjagutta, Ameerpet, SR Nagar, Ramanthapur, Kapra, Kukatpally, Qutubullahpur, Miyapur, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Abids, Nampally, Basheerbagh, Chilkalguda and other areas.
GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy had appealed the common people not to come out of their houses during heavy rains. The Emergency Squad of GHMC was put on alert.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Dr. Rajiv Sharma conducted a review meeting and directed the officials to take necessary steps.
Heavy rains have also disrupted the air traffic and flights bound for Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry and Tirupati were delayed. Several MMTS trains were also cancelled.
