PR and Rural Development Depts to go 'cashless' Hyderabad, Dec 7 (INN): Minister for Panchayat Raj Jupally Krishna Rao on Wednesday said that the State Government would register the biometric details of cent per cent beneficiaries of various welfare pension schemes in the state by the end of January.
Speaking at a review meeting with bankers and postal department officials here, the minister said that State Government was making all efforts towards shifting to cashless transactions in the Panchayat Raj and Rural development departments. He asked the bankers to provide bank accounts to all those beneficiaries of pensions who does not have a bank account till now and register their biometric details along with Aadhaar seeding. He informed that of nearly 35 lakh Aasra pensioners, about 4.5 lakh have no bank accounts. Further, he said about 5,000 villages have no banking facility. To fill this void, a high-level committee with SLBC Convener as its chairman has been constituted which would ensure opening of accounts for all pensioners as well having one bank branch for every 2-3 villages.
The minister said that the government would make online payments to the workers under the NREGA (employment guarantee scheme) as part of its efforts toward achieving cashless transactions.
